Official biography

Tod M. Thedy was appointed as an immigration judge to begin hearing cases in June 2026. Judge Thedy earned a Bachelor of Science in 1976 from the U.S. Naval Academy and a Juris Doctor in 1983 from Loyola University New Orleans. From April 1999 to March 2017, he served as a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State which included overseas tours of duty in Thailand, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Pakistan, Yemen, and Canada, with temporary travel to numerous other countries. From September 1978 to April 1999, he was assistant chief deputy and later general counsel to the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office (Civil) in New Orleans. Concurrently, he was a New Orleans Police lieutenant from 1983 to 1997. Previously, he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. Judge Thedy is a member of the Louisiana State Bar.
