Jason R. Smith was appointed as a temporary immigration judge to begin hearing cases in October 2025. Judge Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1998 from Park University, a Juris Doctorate in 2001 from St. Louis University School of Law, and a Master of Laws in 2011 from the George Washington University Law School. From 2021 to 2025, he served as a litigation attorney at Defense Health Agency in Falls Church, Virginia. From 2015 to 2021, he served as a senior litigation attorney at Air Force Commercial Litigation Branch, Joint Base Andrews, Maryland. From 2012 to 2015, he served as a program attorney at Space and Missile Systems Center, El Segundo, California. From 2011 to 2012, he served as a litigation attorney at Air Force Commercial Litigation Branch, Joint Base Andrews, Maryland. From 2008 to 2010, he served as an Accident Investigation Board legal advisor and aviation attorney at the Air Force Tort and Litigation Branch, Arlington, Virginia. From 2002 to 2008, he served as an assistant staff judge advocate at Patrick Air Force Base, Florida, and Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. Judge Smith is a member of the Missouri Bar.
