Courtenay Patterson was appointed as an immigration judge to begin hearing cases in June 2026. Judge Patterson earned a Bachelor of Arts in 2001 from the University of Colorado and a Juris Doctor in 2004 from the Santa Clara University School of Law. From October 2015 to May 2026, she was a solo practitioner in Longmont, Colorado, in federal civil litigation and state criminal defense. From September 2019 to August 2024, she served as an associate judge for the cities of Fort Collins, Loveland, Longmont, Parker and Thornton, Colorado. From February 2019 to November 2020, she served as an assistant city attorney for the City of Arvada, Colorado. From March 2010 to November 2011, she was in private practice in Walnut Creek, California, in local government defense. From December 2004 to March 2010, she served as a deputy district attorney in Contra Costa County, California. Judge Patterson is a member of the Colorado Bar and State Bar of California.
