Official biography

Clayton M. Lawrence was appointed as an immigration judge to begin hearing cases in May 2026. Judge Lawrence earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a specialization in Business Pre- Law in 2010 from Bowling Green State University, a Juris Doctor in 2013 from Ave Maria School of Law, a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies with an area of study in strategy, operations, and military history in 2025 from the U.S. Naval War College, and Master of Laws in 2026 from Columbia Law School. From 2017 to 2025, he served as a judge advocate general's corps officer in the U.S. Navy, where he held the rank of lieutenant commander. From 2015 to 2017, he served as the chief of litigation at the Department of Justice for the Federated States of Micronesia. From 2014 to 2015, he served as an assistant attorney general at the Pohnpei State Attorney General's Office in the Federated States of Micronesia. Judge Lawrence is a member of the Florida Bar and the Federated States of Micronesia Bar.
