Sergio F. Sarkany was appointed as an immigration judge to begin hearing cases in November 2024. Judge Sarkany earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1996 from the University of California, Berkeley; a Master of Philosophy in Criminology in 1998 from the University of Cambridge; and a Juris Doctor in 2002 from the University of San Francisco School of Law. From 2015 to 2024, he served as an appellate and trial attorney with the Office of Immigration Litigation, Civil Division, Department of Justice. From 2011 to 2014, he served as counsel to the Honorable Lindsey O. Graham, U.S. Senate, in Washington, D.C. From 2002 to 2011, he served as a judge advocate with the U.S. Navy at Naval Station Mayport, Mayport, Florida; Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Jacksonville, Florida; and the Washington Navy Yard. Judge Sarkany is a member of the State Bar of California.

Education: Judge Sarkany earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1996 from the University of California, Berkeley; a Master of Philosophy in Criminology in 1998 from the University of Cambridge; and a Juris Doctor in 2002 from the University of San Francisco School of Law.
