Johanna Gaymer was appointed as an immigration judge to begin hearing cases in May 2026. Judge Gaymer earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and English in 2010 from Fordham University Lincoln Center and a Juris Doctor in 2013 from the University of Iowa College of Law. From May 2022 to April 2026, she served as an assistant chief counsel with the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in New York, New York, and Philadelphia. From January 2020 to May 2022, she served as an asylum officer with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, DHS, in New York and New Jersey. From March 2018 to January 2020, she was an associate with a private immigration law firm in New York. Judge Gaymer is a member of the New Jersey State Bar and the New York State Bar.
