Thomas J. Shusted Jr. was appointed as an immigration judge to begin hearing cases in May 2026. Judge Shusted earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1977 from Gettysburg College and a Juris Doctor in 1981 from Widener University Delaware Law School, where he served as an associate editor of the Law Review. From 2013 to May 2026, he served as a superior court judge in Camden, New Jersey, where he held assignments in the Criminal, Civil, and Family Divisions and served as the presiding judge of the Special Civil Part in Camden County. Additionally, he was specifically assigned on a statewide basis to oversee the Sexually Violent Predator Docket and the Intensive Supervision Program while serving on recall. From 1982 to 2012, he was in private practice in New Jersey. Judge Shusted is a member of the New Jersey State Bar and Pennsylvania Bar.
