Michael F. Hayden was appointed as a temporary immigration judge to begin hearing cases in October 2025. Judge Hayden earned a Bachelor of Arts in 2001 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Juris Doctor in 2004 from Drake Law School, and a Master of Laws in 2015 from the Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School. From 2018 to 2025, he was with a financial institution in Charlotte, North Carolina in the following roles: senior lead enterprise risk officer (2022- 2025); lead business execution consultant (2021- 2022); and a compliance officer (2018- 2021). From 2009 to 2010, he served as a trial counsel at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. From 2008 to 2009, he served as the chief of detention operations in Bagram, Afghanistan. From 2007 to 2008, he served as an administrative law attorney at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. From 2010 to 2012, and from 2015 to 2017, he served as a command legal advisor at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, and Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Since 2018, he has served in the U.S. Army Reserve primarily as a personnel and operations officer. During this time from 2018 to 2020, he also served as an adjunct professor at the Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School. He holds the rank of lieutenant colonel. Judge Hayden is a member of the Massachusetts Bar.

Education: Judge Hayden earned a Bachelor of Arts in 2001 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Juris Doctor in 2004 from Drake Law School, and a Master of Laws in 2015 from the Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School.

Bar admission: Judge Hayden is a member of the Massachusetts Bar.
