Marlem Nava was appointed as an Immigration J udge to begin hearing cas es in October 2022. Judge Nava earned a Bachelor of Science in 1997 from DePaul University and a Juris Doctor in 2002 from University of Illinois Chicago School of Law (formerly known as the John Marshall Law School). From 2016 to 2022, she served as an assistant chief counsel, Office of the Principal Legal Advisor, U.S. Imm igration and Customs Enforcem ent, Department of Homeland Security, in San Francisco. From 2015 to 2016, she was an associate attorney with the Salgado and Associates law fi rm in San Francisco. From 2013 to 2015, she was in privat e practice. From 2003 to 2013, she served as an a ssistant s tate's a ttorney with the Cook County State's Attorney's Office in Chicago. Judge Nava is a member of the Illinois State Bar.
